Dental Sealants and Fluoride – a Healthy Recipe for Children's Smiles
You want nothing but the best for your child, so don't neglect his dental health. Bring your children to Dr. Silva when they are around age two. We like kids to get accustomed to the sights and sounds of our office early, so later in life they won't feel apprehensive about dental visits. Dr. Silva will conduct a comprehensive exam and recommend dental sealants and fluoride treatment when the time comes. By age four or five, your children can begin professional dental hygiene visits.
Teeth with deep grooves, molars in particular, can be difficult to clean, especially for children. Dental sealants, made from a clear resin, protect teeth from decay-causing sugars and acids. We simply brush on the sealant in liquid form, then harden them. Your child's teeth will be protected for years, and the dental sealant will wear off over time.
Fluoride is a mineral found in many foods, drinks, toothpastes, and most public tap water. It attracts other minerals and strengthens teeth against tooth decay. Dr. Silva may recommend supplemental fluoride for you or your child. Most bottled water does not contain fluoride, so some people do not consume a sufficient amount in their daily diet.
