Gum Disease Therapy
Fighting Gum Disease for a Strong Smile
Mild and painless symptoms can make gum disease (periodontal disease) unnoticeable except by dental professionals. Regular dental visits provide a significant line of defense against silent, destructive gum disease. Gum disease is the main cause of adult tooth loss in the United States, and it has been linked to increased risk for strokes, heart attacks, and other whole-health complications.
Early-stage gum disease is called gingivitis, and advanced cases are known as periodontitis. If we determine that you have gum disease or are at risk for it based on the plaque buildup on your teeth, we will recommend a deep cleaning. With scaling, we will remove plaque from below your gum line, and root planing will smooth teeth roots to prevent plaque buildup. If necessary, Dr. Silva will remove infection from pockets between teeth and gums with a soft tissue laser.
